Air Combat Group (ACG)
Perhaps the most important organisational change to the group system has been the merger of Tactical Fighter Group (TFG) and Strike Reconnaissance Group (SRG) to form the Air Combat Group (ACG). While in some ways the fighter and strike elements will continue to operate as discrete units for some time, ACG will provide the opportunity for the RAAF to test the organisation required to deliver a range of combat capabilities post the F/A-18 and F-111C/G aircraft.
Air Combat Group’s units include:
• No 78 Wing headquartered at RAAF Williamtown encompassing:
- No 76 Squadron, RAAF Williamtown, flying Hawk Mk127 aircraft
- No 79 Squadron, RAAF Pearce, flying Hawk Mk127 aircraft
- No 2 Operational Conversion Unit, RAAF Williamtown, flying F/A-18A
& F/A-18B aircraft
• No 81 Wing headquartered at RAAF Williamtown encompassing:
- No 3 Squadron, RAAF Williamtown, flying F/A-18 aircraft
- No 75 Squadron, RAAF Tindal, flying F/A-18 aircraft
- No 77 Squadron, RAAF Williamtown, flying F/A-18 aircraft
• No 82 Wing headquartered at RAAF Amberley encompassing:
- No 1 Squadron, RAAF Amberley, flying RF-111C & F-111C aircraft
- No 6 Squadron, RAAF Amberley, flying F-111G & F-111C aircraft
- Forward Air Control Development Unit (FACDU), RAAF Williamtown,
flying PC-9/A aircraft
