Re: 64-Bit gaming is here & coming faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
OK Super XP, I'll bite.
>> I think many of you don't understand why 64-Bit gaming is better than 32-Bit gaming. I've been running Windows XP Pro x64 for over a year now, and it is plays games faster & for some reason looks better.
That's right, I don't, and that's why I ask questions like in this thread. I know that the visual improvements are SOLELY due to game developers adding custom code to the 64-bit versions. There is no technical reason why this code cannot be added to the 32-bit versions. In some cases benchmarks prove that 64-bit versions are slower than their 32-bit counterparts, so I think it's a bit inaccurate to say that it "plays games faster".
>> 64-Bit gaming Plus’s
>> - 64-Bitness is new & getting better & better
This doesn't seem like much of a compelling or quantifiable reason.
>> - Faster FPS
See above.
>> - Addresses much more Memory & handles it a lot better (16TB + memory)
This will certainly be an advantage, once people stop flaming HWA posters for suggesting that 1GB is not enough for 3D gaming, but not right now. Not sure what "handles it a lot better" means - care to elaborate?
>> - Better image quality
This is just plain false, unless (as in Far Cry 64-bit) the developers specifically left code out of the 32-bit version. If this is not false, then please point me to some reputable source that says otherwise - the only people I can find making this claim are AMD64 marketing team members.
>> - Games can be a lot longer
What? Can you explain this one a little further?
>> - Developers can design amazing games without the 32-Bit limitations
Just what are these 32-bit limitations (other than 4GB RAM barrier)? I'm not being a smartass here, I seriously want to know.
>> Just like in the 80's with 16-Bit computers, 32-Bit took over for the better by far, now it's time for 64-Bit.
>>
>>If you are close minded about 64-Bit than wake up or don't post, because you know nothing about 64-Bit programming.
Don't get me wrong here -- I *WANT* to be excited about 64-bit gaming. But a handful of patches that could have easily been deployed under 32-bit as well does not get me excited. I've been chastisted on more than one occasion for suggesting that 1GB of RAM was not enough for 3D gaming -- so again, I'm not real excited about breaking the 4GB barrier just yet. Please, give me some real reasons to be excited about 64-bit gaming, without the marketing fluff.
This is not meant to be a personal insult. I am just sick and tired of misinformation going unchallenged, and marketing talking points being passed around as technical information. Please, prove you know more about 64-bit programming than I do by giving some logical answers.
