In our last interview last year you where planning to introduce
Laser-guided missiles and making air support a lot more importent. How
would you say the progress on these things are today?requiem: The above mentioned items are still in planning, right now our focus is still on balancing realism with gameplay. It is easy to replace a team by a new army, because it's all the same, just looks different. However, if you are making changes to damage values, speeds, accurarcy, etc. etc. you need to make sure that the gameplay is still in sync, this requires a lot of testing, so much that it was the idea behind the PRMM series in the first place. The outcome has been successful, just look at the suggestions & feedback our community provides.
What mod would you say would be the most "threat" to Project Reality?requiem: On a fundamental business level it's easy to view other mods as a threat as you are often competing against one another in quite a few ways. In my time as PR's lead and now as the retired lead or "godfather", I still see other mods as an opportunity. We have always been open to partnerships with other mods that share the same values (promoting a free product with a high degree of quality and originality, whilst including the community the best we can). In terms of direct competitors, there is Point of Existence & Forgotten Hope 2 which are shaping up very nicely. From our perspective though, we combine the best of both worlds to bring a degree of realism which allows gameplay as well as incorporate all the modern weapons the 21st century has to offer. An example would be the render included here, the FN Tactical Shotgun, in-game it boosts two types of ammunition (Slug & Buckshot) and a red dot system as the form of an "iron sight". Compared to the "Remington 870 meets Duke Nukem" shotgun in BF2 Vanilla/Standard which doesn't even have a sight, it's quite the improvement, and it's felt by our players in-game. The different ammunition also allows for long distance and close quarters shooting making the Engineer more then just a mine-layer. Save the $10 from the booster packs and try out PRMM, we promote a deeper gameplay experience with a much heightened sense of teamplay.
The biggest problem all mods are facing in BF2 is the problem about people not wanting to play when they arent being ranked. Do you know if DICE have any thoughts about letting mods into the official rankingsystem?requiem: It is possible that Digital Illusions CE will allow certain mods to be ranked in the future, but it is just not viable for them at this point in time. They are releasing their booster packs soon and like any other company who has to pay their employees at the end of the month, they will look to maximize revenue on it. Although ranking isn't a major variable, it's still a variable that any rational decision maker would keep at a point that makes the most sense financially. It also serves to extend the growth stage of a mods life cycle so that they reach maturity beyond the life of the booster packs (which then in turn also extends the life of BF2). Just business as usual.
However, we have been the first mod to adopt the ABR ranking system, a 3rd party product which has a professional team and offers it services unconditionally. We have been using this system since PRMM 0.2 and you will receive promotions in-game, can create stats signatures as well as view the same amount of information & detail as the official ranking system. What's even better is that we can create our own awards, which in the long-run means we will create more team-oriented ranks & awards. Perfect for PR.
What else do you have in mind for the community?requiem: We're very excited about the PR Tournament which is currently in the making, our community will absolutely love it. It will be lead by one of our developers, UKForce, who has seen combat firsthand throughout Cyprus, Bosnia and recently Iraq as a Sergent in the British Army. In addition, we will also have other active & veteran members of various Militaries around the world take part. Together with our mod, it's going to be as real as Battlefield 2 can get. The tournament will be open to players of all skill levels and will not require any player to play a set number of hours per week. Join a side, enjoy a high level of teamwork and play amongst people who have real military experience. Our Tournament will go live VERY shortly, so be sure to be registered on our forums once it's doors open!
And so the last and requried question: When can we expect the full version to be released?requiem: We are releasing a version entitled PRMM 0.25 which will have bug & balance fixes as well as be compatible with the 1.2 patch, this will be a matter of days before it comes out. Roughly a month after we are looking to release PRMM 0.3 which will contain a ton of new features, many custom maps . See the PR video at
